The Future of Glossies

Hmm. The future of glossy magazines is looking a bit bleak.

As a self professed wedding junkie, I've been scouring the magazine aisles for all the wedding magazines since high school. I could never get enough of them. They seemed to have never ending ideas of new ways to do your hair, new dress styles, the trendiest centerpieces, the list goes on and on.

Flash forward to when I'm starting to plan my own wedding. The collection of 25 or so bridal magazines I always gazed at longingly has now shrunken down to 10?

One of my close friends and brides maids subscribed me to Brides, Modern Bride, and Elegant Bride for my birthday. A couple of subscriptions in I get a letter in the mail stating that both Modern Bride and Elegant Bride were going to be cancelled and that Brides would now be a monthly magazine. Hmm looks like the recession was not kind to the wedding industry.

Well the bright side now was that I would now be getting one issue every month! Fabulous new and trendy ideas for me to look at every few weeks! So fresh! So new!

Wrong. While I do enjoy getting the magazine in my mailbox every few weeks, I have to say that the content... well...kinda sucks. The magazine is around 75% ads and whatever is left over is really not that great. During this time, I stumbled upon the world of wedding blogs.

Oh boy, they knocked my socks off! I fell in love with the very sweet DIY community of Weddingbee and the ever so fashionable daily line up of Stylemepretty. I couldn't believe it, fashion forward daily accessible eye candy-every morning!

The best part-they feature REAL weddings. Everyday.
Whereas some of the bridal magazines are still using dated looks, these sites featured super trendy brides who would let you know how to achieve each look.

I was in wedding fashion heaven. So I guess if you are looking to find some really great wedding material but want to save on the $$, I urge you to skip out on the bridal magazines (except for Martha Stewart Weddings-she's still a genius), and make a beeline to the blogs!

So without further adieu, one of my favorite posts on Stylemepretty yet. Get ready for some major wedding porn.
